Conclusion

Overall, Breathless (Jean Luc-Godard, 1960) set out to break down barriers and start anew with cinema and gain change. Godard achieved this by ignoring the conventions of film and starting a style of his own. The effects of the new wave movement are far and wide. The films that sprung out of it gained international fame and young filmmakers around the world had grown up watching them.

The nouvelle vague could be argued to be the most important film movement of the 20th century. The hot-blooded filmmakers freed up cinema to come into it’s own as an art form and differ itself like it never had been before. The New Wave movement had swayed the descendants deeply. However, modern or future directors should produce films in applying the principles of French New Wave movement to make creative films and more sophisticated in terms of aesthetic and cinematography. Directors create good films and technicians are boring!
